Family Holiday (Greece), 2023
This memory sculpture is inspired by our family holidays to Greece over many summers.
Our family holidays in Greece are precious times. Traveling somewhere with guaranteed sunshine, beautiful and local fresh food, adventure and relaxation with my family create memories I hold dear.
In this memory sculpture I have recycled clothing we have worn on these holidays, added collected shells, rocks, tickets and other memorabilia. The three strands represent our family members. The colours represent our memories of nature, people, activities, fun and relaxation. The ribbon represents the water activities we partake in: swimming, snorkelling, water skiing, waterfalls, rivers, beach walks and, of course, the beautiful sea. The 3D turtle was created from a (favourite but outgrown) Greek t-shirt purchased near a protected beach where turtles come to hatch their eggs every year. The beach towel was crafted from another favourite t-shirt worn on our holidays, despite being a souvenir from Colorado!
Looking at this sculpture brings back many wonderful holiday memories.
