Jackie’s Interior Decomposition, 2021

As soon as I made the initial shape of this sculpture, I felt like it was looking into an ‘interior’ of some kind.

In our fine art course, my friend Jackie was creating artworks which explored the fragility of being an organic entity, and the inevitable decay and collapse.

In using Jackie’s fabrics, I seemed to channel her curiosity about interior decomposition and exterior protection and projection.

It was also when another friend Sally gifted me some amazing feathers, that it all came together in a slightly bizarre and unsettling way.

Jackie’s Interior Decomposition, 2021: gifted fabric, feathers, aluminium, wood, nails, plaster, thread, organza ribbon. 34 x 28 x 25cm.
